Superyacht standards at Villa La Bergerie

Luxury hotels are all well and good but what if, post superyacht charter, you’re craving the same levels of privacy and intimacy on land? For those finishing up a charter holiday in the South of France – Villa la Bergerie might well be the answer.

By Dominique Afacan | 8 November 2017

Located in the Domaine des Terres Blanches, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees, this privately-owned grand mansion, with views over the red-tinged Esterel mountains, strikes just the right balance between haute living and grounded luxury. Many of the owner’s private staff are transplants from the superyachting world – so nobody will bat an eyelid if you sweep around in your dressing gown or if the kids are running riot in the spotless living room (they are more likely to be downstairs in the basement games room, anyhow). And just like on a superyacht, you can choose to serve or be served when it comes to the cooking.

Location-wise – this is a famously prestigious region. As such, there is reassuringly strict security, even outside the grounds of the villa – and then of course, plenty more within. Despite its hidden-away appeal, getting there is a synch. Guests can fly to a private airstrip in Cannes Mandelieu, 30 minutes away, or even easier, fly straight off the yacht by helicopter and land three minutes away from the villa by golf buggy.

Once on-site, charter guests will notice that they have swapped ocean views for spectacular hillside villages, landscaped gardens and the immaculate Golf Course of Terre Blanche. Meanwhile, on board cabins have been exchanged for six palatial guest rooms with king-sized beds, superlative bathrooms and balconies. Those still craving their aquatic fix can simply pad out to the villa’s enormous pool (heated for the cooler months), replete with golden inflatable swans (no basic lilos for La Bergerie) and surrounded by lounge areas and sunbeds worthy of a five-star hotel.

For bigger parties, La Petite Bergerie, a two-bedroom guesthouse has just opened a few paces away from the main villa offering up room for four more guests. In keeping with the main house design, there is reclaimed natural stone, oak flooring and a fireplace for guests coming in the colder months. By all accounts, this is a year-round destination – with Christmas and New Year particularly popular for bookings. Perhaps you won’t have to wait until your next superyacht charter after all.
